Marina Park

Confronted with an under-utilized parcel of land located on the bay side of the Balboa peninsula, the City of Newport Beach engaged the Rabben/Herman design office to develop and explore a consensus plan that included many needed facilities, provide varied recreational opportunites and create a compelling public park. Working with city staff and other stakeholders, the plan was refined over the course of a three year process including public workshops, preliminary engineering, and environmental review.

The plan dramatically improves both physical and visual access to the bay, opening up over 1100 feet of waterfront area to public view. It provides facilities for community use, as well as a home for the City's sailing instruction progam, and a marina for visiting vessels, which substantially increases the total number of visiting slips available in the harbor.

A children's play area, public restrooms, a water play area, and recreational facilities are also provided for visitors as well as the local residents.
